What you need to qualify:
Two years of experience determining eligibility for an agency program by interviewing to assess the needs of clients, and interpreting and applying the policies, rules, and guidelines that are applicable to the client's situation.
Any college courses may be substituted for the two years of general experience on a year-for-year basis (45 quarter hours is equivalent to one year of experience.
) A photocopy of your transcripts must be attached to your application materials if using college courses to meet the minimum qualifications.
You must clearly show that you meet the minimum qualifications in your application or resume to be considered for an interview.
Your application or resume will be used in determining what pay salary step you fall in with the pay equity assessment, so complete work and education history is helpful.

Experience in a social/human services setting interviewing customers in person & by phone to obtain information to determine eligibility.
Experience accurately using basic mathematics in a work environment.
Ability to complete tasks, duties, projects, and obligations with deadlines, that produce high-quality results.
Experience prioritizing a high-volume workload.
Experience creating and maintaining written documentation of activities concerning individual clients.
Ability to complete highly technical & detailed work.
Ability to work objectively and in a supportive way with people experiencing emotional and/or financial stress.
Experience referring Oregonians to other community resources.
Experience working with a diverse population with the ability to understand their needs, demonstrating compassion, and taking a trauma informed lens to all interaction.
Ability to communicate via email, mail, written document, reports, presentation, etc.

Explain and articulate complex laws, rules, and policies in a customer-focused manner, to a non-technical audience.
Ability to work in a team environment by cooperating within the team, make joint decisions in support of the department mission.

Your duties at a glance:
The Self Sufficiency Offices help with food benefits (SNAP), cash for families (TANF), childcare assistance (ERDC), medical, refugee services, and domestic violence services.
Self-Sufficiency Programs Mission:
To provide a safety net, family stability and a connection to careers that guide Oregonians out of poverty.
As a benefit and eligibility worker, you will:
Determine initial eligibility for Medicaid, APD financial eligibility, TANF, domestic violence services, SNAP, medical and employment related day care applicants and customers.
Interview applicants by phone, or face to face, to gather information needed to assess and determine if there is a need for services and benefits.
Assess client family strengths and needs, connecting families to other resources and programs in the community.
Update narrative report summarizing new information from client and collateral sources.
Other duties as assigned.
Working conditions:
Work occurs in offices, customers' homes, and other program sites.
Work can involve travel, including overnight.
Employee has contact with a range of people, including some exhibiting anger and frustration.
They will be exposed to a range of emotionally-charged issues and will need to respond professionally.
The work schedule for this position will be determined by business need.
Also due to business needs, this position may be relocated to other offices or to stationed sites within the district.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
